How to Draw The Historic Building, Dome of The Rock

        This building is called Dome of The Rock and has a golden dome. This edifice contains a stone that is believed to have been the Prophet Muhammad SAW's foothold during the Isra' Mi'raj journey. But, have you ever immortalized this historic building in a sketch? In this article, I explain the steps about how to draw the Dome of The Rock in 6 simple steps. So, let's get started!


Tools I Used:

  • Paper size: A5 (148 x 210 mm)
  • Drawing pens: 0.03 and 0.1
  • Pencil: B
  • Rulers: Straight rulers (15 cm, 20 cm) and shape ruler
  • Eraser


Drawing Building - Getting Started

1. Step 1

    Make basic lines for the core of the building, namely the walls for the top and bottom windows. Then draw straight lines horizontally for the top of the window. 

2. Step 2

        Make curved lines like a half circle for the top of the window. 


3. Step 3

        Make basic lines for the dome and the bottom of the dome. Draw details or patterns on the top window. You can add patterns such as small circles, zig-zags, half circles, or squares by adjusting to the reference picture. For the bottom of the building, you can add square and circle shapes. 


4. Step 4

        You can add round shapes to the first straight line above the window, square shapes to the second straight line, and dot shapes to the third straight line. 


5. Step 5

        For the dome, make vertical and slightly curved lines. Besides, make lines horizontally and slightly curved downwards. For the bottom of the dome, make patterns according to the reference picture. You can add slanted square and zig-zag shapes. 


6. Step 6

        To make the final lines, you can use drawing pens with size 0.03 for thin and small lines and 0.1 for large lines. Shade the shadow part of the window, so it looks embossed.
