Draw Large Building: Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris
Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris was built under the direction of Bishop Maurice de Sully in 1163. The structure of this building is an example of French Gothic architecture. Apart from the Eiffel Tower, the building is also one of the most famous buildings in Paris. The structure is a representation of Paris wince it welcomes almost 12 million tourists each year. In this article, I will guide you to drawing Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris step-by-step.
Tools I Used:
- Paper size: A4 (210 x 297 mm)
- Drawing pens: 005 and 01 Pigma micron
- Pencil: B
- Ruler: straight ruler (15 cm, 20 cm, 30 cm) and shape ruler
- Eraser
How to Draw It?
1. Step 1 - Making plan lines
Draw two vertical lines to form a rectangle with a height of 23.5 cm and a length of 17 cm. Horizontally, divide the lines into 3 parts. The right and left are 6 cm, while the middle is 5 cm. Vertically, divide the line into 5 parts. The top is 6.5 cm, then 3.2 cm, then 4.5 cm, then 2.1 cm, and the bottom is 7.2 cm.
2. Step 2 - Making basic lines
Start giving details at the bottom of the building. Draw 3 triangle shapes with 4 layers for the right and left and 6 layers for the middle. Add 1 triangle on the top left side. Draw 2 doors for each part. Draw rectangles and triangles on each side of the door.
For the second part (top of the door), draw thin lines with a length of 1 cm for each line to make the fence, and draw a triangle shape at each end of the thin lines. Then, draw thin lines with a length of 4 mm for the fence above, and draw a triangle shape at the top end of the thin lines.
For the third part (top of the fence), draw a triangle on the right and left sides. Draw 2 doors in each of the triangles. For the middle, draw a curved semicircle. Then make a circle inside the half circle. Give a few details to the circle. Draw 3 small circles at each end of each section. Draw a small triangle shape on each pole.
For the fourth part (the top of the second door), draw thin lines with the length of each line 1.4 cm. Draw a triangle at the top end of the thin lines. Draw triangles to connect each fence. Give some details.
For the fifth part (the top part of the building), draw 2 doors with 4 layers on each right and left side. Draw a triangle at the top of the door. Give details above the door by making straight lines and triangles.
Add walls on the right and left side of the building.
Draw horizontal and vertical zig-zag lines to make bricks. Draw on empty walls.
3. Step 3 - Making final lines
To make the final lines, use drawing pens 005 and 01. Thick the sketch lines that have been made. Shade the bricks using the hatching method without using full shading. Shade each door using the 1 layer oblique hatching method.
Therefore, these are steps about how to draw the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris. Now, draw your own version of this! Have fun sketching!
